Even if you’ve lived in Buffalo, NY all of your life, the history is so extensive and rich, there’s a lot of things you may not have heard. Buffalo River History Tours is a 90 minute tour which gives you so much history about Buffalo’s waterfront; as it was, as it’s changing, and what it will be again! Buffalo River History Tours is located at the Central Wharf at Canalside. My rating is 5 out of 5 Wheelz!

Parking: There are many different parking options around Canalside for parking. There is handicap street parking, parking at the Erie Basin Marina, and other parking lots nearby.

Getting to the Boat: There are sidewalks and walkways leading up to the boardwalk at Canalside. There is a pedestrian bridge to get over to the boardwalk that is fully accessible and easy to get around. The bridge is rounded so there is an incline and decline every time you cross. The boardwalk is made of wood, which can create difficulty navigating if you’re not paying full attention. You should be able to see the Buffalo History Tour kiosk while on the wooden pathway. The kiosk is at the proper height to purchase tickets and ask questions. There are more tours available, but I have not yet tried them all. The boat is docked near the commercial slip, which is a short distance from the kiosk. The deck is slightly narrower than the boardwalk, but it easily fits a standard wheelchair.

Getting on and off the boat: Getting on/off the boat may require some assistance. I was fortunate enough to be with someone strong enough to maneuver the boat close enough to the dock that there was no gap between.

On the Boat: Once on the boat, there was plenty of space to move and get a great spot to see out of the front and either side. I would recommend putting your brakes on during the ride. Enjoy the tour!
